| The
City of Inverness, incorporated in 1919, encompasses 7 square miles of
hilly terrain and is bordered on the East by the Tsala Apopka Chain of
Lakes. Visitors from all over the world have found the City an inviting
location with rich natural resources, fine schools, and recreational
opportunities. While few would consider Inverness metropolitan,
the downtown is distinguished by buildings of character, stature, and
significance to the residents of Citrus County. The most
prominent, the 1912 Historic Court House, now stands center stage as a
focal point in the re-invigorated downtown. |

Renovations
that were completed in autumn 2000 restored this landmark to its former
majesty. Visitors who walk the halls, climb its steps, or experience
the view of the courtroom cannot help but feel the weight of history
and pride that is so evident in the rich wood and majestic granite that
make this building special. A museum depicting the history of Citrus
County may be enjoyed on the first floor of the building. Still of
grandeur heritage is the Crown Hotel. Originally constructed in 1880,
and later moved to its current location on Seminole Avenue, this
splendid building remains as one of several landmark structures in
Inverness. |
| Since
the early 1980's one destination point has become synonymous with the
City of Inverness - Whispering Pines Park - the county's largest
non-waterside recreational facility. The park boasts 300 acres of all
the outdoors has to offer. Contained in this the crown jewel of a park
are miles of walking trails, ball fields, tennis, racquetball,
basketball and shuffleboard courts, plus a junior Olympic swimming
pool, picnic grounds and play areas characterize a leisure setting
framed in the natural beauty of Central Florida. Through the
years, Inverness has become a haven for those seeking a simpler
lifestyle, a friendly community to enjoy their retirement, or a safe
home to raise their family. Several golf courses are located in Inverness, including Inverness Golf and Country Club, Lakeside Golf and Country Club, and Point O' Woods Golf Club. |

Many may be found enjoying the beautiful water front parks,
jet skiing on the lakes, or fishing from the pier at Wallace Brooks Park. If
bicycling is what you like, you can ride for miles on the scenic Withlachoochee
State Trail that connects many of our parks, business district and other hamlets
along the way. As the ancestral home of the County Seat, Inverness has been filled with the
hopes, dreams, fears, and heartache of the generations that have walked its
streets, breathed its air and enjoyed its natural beauty. Residents are to be
saluted for an unyielding commitment to the City and their appreciation of the
fact this is a wonderful place to be. |
